Things Change or My New Car!!!

Recently, I have blogged about my Prius, Prudence, turning 100,000 miles  (http://tempestinapot.blogspot.com/2012/07/turning-100000.html).  I told you dear friends that I loved my car and I was committed to keeping her a little longer.  This decision was made before I took my car in for her 100,000 mile check up.  Before I had even passed the keys over, the dealer had cut me from the herd and handed me over to a nice guy named Steve.

Steve's job was to get me to trade in my Prudence and get a new car.  Now car dealers always want you to buy new cars, but his spin was a little different.  Sure buying a car would be nice, however what they really wanted was my old car.  Apparently, used vehicles are at a premium, used Priuses (Prii, unsure of the plural of Prius) even more so.  I was lured by the shiny new vehicle and the heady scent of new car, but drove away in Prudence with a packet of promotional information and much on my mind.

Natalie was not initially supportive of the idea of a new vehicle with new drains on my income, but once the thought was there, it tickled at the back of my mind.  It took 3 more visits and much financial gymnastics on both sides of table.  In the end I said yes, and Prudence is no longer mine.  Even Natalie was impressed with the deal I got on the new Prius.

I named my new silver Prius, Sookie.  Sookie comes from a Dwight Yoakam song and I do like the character from Charlaine Harris' Southern Vampire Series.  So Sookie it is.  I got the car fresh off the truck with 1 whole mile on it.  And can I say I love my new car.  I promise I will check back with you when we reach 100,000 miles together.

Interesting thought, what IS the plural of Prius? What do you call a group of Prius? Hmm, that'll take some pondering...

Wikipedia weighed in with this to say about the plural of Prius:
Prius is a Latin word meaning "before". According to Toyota, the name was chosen because the Prius was launched before environmental awareness became a mainstream social issue.[10]

In February 2011, Toyota asked the public to decide on what the most proper plural form of Prius should be, with choices including Prien, Prii, Prium, Prius, or Priuses.[11][12] The company says "it will use the most popular choice in its advertising"[13] and on February 20 announced that "Prii" was the most popular choice, and the new official plural designation.[1] In Latin prius is the neuter singular of the comparative form (prior, prior, prius) of an adjective with only comparative and superlative (the superlative being primus, prima, primum), consequently, like all 3rd declension words, the plural in Latin was priora (cf. Latin declension) which was used by the Lada Priora in 2007.

Naming your car “Sookie” sounds good. The name is so endearing, and it is very suitable for a cute car like this. Our cars play a significant role in our lives. Giving them names is treating them like an important member of our family. On my part, I named my black car Alexis, the name sounds cute and regal for me.

The mere fact that you’re very happy and satisfied with your car is more than enough reason to celebrate! It’s really about the feeling of contentment that you have whenever you purchase anything for yourself that really matters. I hope you and your new friend, Sookie form a good and lasting bond together. Have a happy and safe trip! Congrats! =)

Our recent trip to Nashville was via Sookie. We rode in style getting about 47.5 mpg in my new car/mp3 player/phone. The journey almost as enjoyable as the destination as my wife and I spent the time together. I know mushy stuff.

Congratulations on your new car! That’s a very popular model nowadays, so you definitely got it for quite a steal! That’s a beautiful color as well. And you know what? The more I look at her, the more she DOES start to look like a “Sookie!” I thought maybe she could be a “Gabrielle” as well.

I just read your reply to Leisa. I’m glad to know that the drive in your new car, Sookie was just as fun as the destination! When you say “mp3 player/phone,” do you mean to say that you can hook up your mp3 player or phone to the speakers or radio system in your car? That’s totally neat!

Why yes my lovely Sookie does in fact have a port for a mp3 player as well as bluetooth enabled. I can listen to tunes on my phone or hook up my walkman. My first generaion nano, does not work, but other ipods work just fine. I love my Sookie Sue. Thank you for asking. :^D

Have you already reached 100,000 miles? :) Remember to do frequent car checkups, especially when you usually take on long road trips. Always check the brakes and the wheel alignments. These two car parts may very well make you safe if they are in their prime condition. Enjoy your trips. :)

With the 2004 Prius I did in fact reach over 100,000. When I bought the car it had 2 miles on it. This car was the first car I ever bought new. The toyota dealer and I took good care of her. I am sure we will do the same with the new car. I am still enjoying that new car smell. :^y

Trade-in deals are ideal if you really want to ditch your old car for a new one. But you must be very wary of the deal before committing to it. I think it would be best if you have your car checked by a third party to know how much its current price is. In that case, you'll know if the car salesman is underestimating the worth of your car.
